Keep reading to learn what you need to consider when renting a tractor, and call RECO Equipment when you’re ready to see some models in person. We have locations in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania!
Inspection
Before you rent a model, it’s important to inspect the tractor to ensure that it’s the right piece of equipment for you. After all, you’re probably not getting a brand new tractor, so you’ll need to make sure it’s in good working condition.
Some things to consider when renting include:
- The model year: how old is the machine? Do you need a rig with newer systems?
- Repair history: the dealer should be able to provide you with any repairs the tractor has undergone.
- The engine: the machine should fire up easily on a cold engine and continue to run well after 30 minutes. After checking the engine, look for any signs of leaks.
- The hydraulics: You want to test the full range of the rams by extending them while lifting a load.
- Test drive: if the dealer allows it, take the machine for a test drive and make sure you feel comfortable operating it. Make note of any gear slippage or odd noises.
Questions to Ask Before Renting
Having a good quality tractor is just one part of the rental experience. You’re also going to need to know the rental agreement as well as some other information.
Questions to ask include:
- What are the delivery and pick up policies?
- Is the tractor on a maintenance plan? Can you look at service records?
- What happens if the tractor rental breaks down?
- How long will you have to wait for a replacement or repair?
- Can you extend the rental period if needed?
- What is the billing policy and when is payment due?
- What is the pricing structure? What am I actually paying for?
- Is there any insurance coverage included in the agreement?
These are some of the most important questions you should ask before renting a tractor. Asking questions now will save you a headache in the future. It’s always important to fully understand what you are agreeing to with the dealer.
